In 'Taking History' Chris Doris continues his series of relational ‘inquiries’ using modes of observation from psychotherapy, meditation and psychology in an art context. In this intimate work a series of 50 minute confidential, one to one encounters, occur in a private space. The artist /psychotherapist enacts a process of joint inquiry in which the most significant events in the ‘history' are deduced. The final hand written document is given to the person. The work echoes previous inquiries the artist has done, ('How Best to Spend 10 Minutes with an Old Man', 2013), and the tradition of portrait sitting.
After a ten minute break the next person comes and the process continues for 6 sessions.
10 to 1, 2 to 5.
